Mark Maronde and Dr. Johnny Mac Smith have joined the Keeneland sales staff. Maronde will be a sales account executive, and Smith, a veterinarian, will be a member of the yearling inspection team.

Maronde, who will assist in sales recruiting and marketing, had worked in the bloodstock division of Bill Casner and Kenny Troutt’s WinStar Farm since 2004. He has been involved in the Thoroughbred industry for more than 20 years.

“We are pleased to welcome Mark to Keeneland,” said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales. “His knowledge of the industry, both from the racetrack and farm perspectives, will be invaluable to providing exceptional customer service to our clients.”

Smith is a founding partner of Peterson and Smith Equine Hospital near Ocala, Fla. Dr. Smith serves as the veterinarian consultant to the Grayson-Jockey Club Foundation.

“We are delighted that Dr. Smith has joined our inspection team,” said Russell. “His years of veterinary practice and farm management have taught him a common sense, practical approach to yearling evaluation, and have earned him great respect from his peers and clients.”
