Lonhro Offspring Shine in Australia

Bring highest prices as Melbourne Great Southern weanling sale opens.

(William Inglis & Son press release)

The clearance rate was 93% during the first session of the William Inglis & Son Melbourne Great Southern weanling sale May 18 in Australia. The 131 horses that sold grossed Aust$1,063,250 (approximately $796,948 in U.S. funds) and averaged Aust$8,116 ($6,083). The median price was Aust$4,000 ($2,998).

"Overall, it's been a very strong start to the sale with buyers represented from every state in Australia and New Zealand," said Inglis director Peter Heagney. "Typically, the good quality horses sold extremely well, but the satisfying part was the competition on all lots. At this stage, it has been a very good result and I see no reason why it would drop off."

A Lonhro – Chiq Flick filly brought the session’s highest price of Aust$57,500 ($43,099). A Lonhro – Infatuated colt sold for Aust$56,000 ($41,974). Western Australia’s Cape Falls Thoroughbreds purchased both weanlings from Darley.
