Multiple graded winner leaves field behind while clocking a time of 1:32.59.

Multiple graded stakes winner Monterey Jazz eclipsed a 15-year-old Hollywood Park turf mark when he clocked a mile in 1:32.59 while winning a $58,400 allowance race by 3 3/4 lengths May 24 (VIDEO)

Ridden by Tyler Baze, Monterey Jazz set a fast pace, separating from a strung-out field on the backstretch and finishing with interest while under a brisk hand ride. His time broke the mark of 1:32.64 set by Megan's Interco in winning the Shoemaker Mile (gr. IT) on May 22, 1994. The 5-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Thunderello ran out well past the wire for Baze.

Fractions were :23.63, :46.22 and 1:09.04.

Craig Dollase trains Monterey Jazz, who won the 2008 Strub (gr. II) on Santa Anita's synthetic turf. The dark bay has won seven of 18 starts in his career with earnings of $580,880. A & R Stables and Class Racing Stable are the winning owners.

Monterey Jazz, who paid $5.80 to win as the 8-5 choice, is two-for-two on the Hollywood turf in his career and has cracked 1:33 going a mile both times. He carried 120 pounds.

Grade I winner Becrux finished second, with Chilean-bred El Merito third.
