A Markane – Our Fiction colt brought Aust$17,000 (approximately $13,732 in U.S. funds) to top the general session of the national weanling sale on the Gold Coast of Australia June 2. New Zealand-based Poplar Lodge purchased the colt from Egmont Park Stud.

In all, 79 weanlings were sold for a gross of Aust$191,100 ($154,359) and an average price of Aust$2,419 ($1,954). The clearance rate was 81%.

"The value was second to none," said Magic Millions managing director David Chester. "There were plenty of top young prospects going for what I thought were bargain prices. We had buyers today from Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, and Tasmania as well as both South Africa and New Zealand. Taking all things into account, the weanling section of the national sale has gone well. Quality individuals sold well, and many buyers told us it was very tough buying the right horse."
