The history of the track at Belmont Park is that is dries out quickly. According to the latest forecast, it will have about 17 hours to do so prior to the June 6 Belmont Stakes (gr. I).
It rained at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y., June 4 and will rain all day June 5. The races June 4 were run on a sloppy main track and the turf races were taken off the grass. But, it is supposed to stop raining between 2-3 a.m. June 6, and there is no chance of further precipitation before the Belmont goes off at 6:27 p.m.
After the rain moves out, it is supposed to clear and be a beautiful day at the racetrack. The temperature is supposed to reach 70 by noon and be about 75 by the time the horses in the third leg of the Triple Crown go to the starting gate.
This will be quite a difference from a year ago, when it was extremely hot and muggy on Belmont day and the track experienced water flow and plumbing problems due to a broken water line in the grandstand.
