A new wagering platform called that allows bettors to make wagers online or by phone on Del Mar and other racetracks in the country year-round began operation July 1. The platform, powered by XPressbet, charges no membership or monthly or per-wager fees. Account holders also will be able to access limited free audio and video streaming of races online.

The new wagering platform will offer more than 100 tracks (including harness) throughout the year. Also, wagering on selected international tracks will be available, including races from Australia. Complete details on the platform are available on the Del Mar Web site.

A release noted that the wagering platform is unique in that Del Mar Thoroughbred Club will split commissions from wagers made on the platform with horsemen.

“Our commissions from this site will be split 50-50 with our horsemen,” DMTC president and general manager Joe Harper said. “The monies we gain from the use of Del Mar Bets will mean purse increases for our owners, trainers and jockeys, which is all the more reason for them – or anyone who cares about them – to get on board.”

“We did not enter into this agreement lightly,” added DMTC’s executive vice president Craig Fravel. “We did our due diligence and clearly determined that XpressBet offered our fans proven technology along with a reputation for providing the best customer service in the business. We’ve found their people easy to work with, highly motivated and knowledgeable. We believe Del Mar Bets will be a winner.”

Del Mar’s 37-day racing season runs from Wednesday, July 22 to Wednesday, Sept. 9.
