First Winner for Freshman Sire Purge

Colt wins at Arlington in second start.

Purge got his initial winner when Perfect Drive won the first race at Arlington Park July 30 by nine lengths (VIDEO).

The juvenile colt is a homebred for JoAnn and Alex Leiblong and is trained by Steve Hobby. Out of the Honour and Glory mare Mary Alex, Perfect Drive was making his second start, both for a $40,000 claiming tag. He finished fourth July 9 going 4 1/2 furlongs and broke his maiden over six furlongs, covering the distance in 1:10.74.

Purge, by Pulpit, stands at Tom Simon’s Vinery near Lexington. His fee this year was $12,500. He won the 2005 Hill ‘n’ Dale Cigar Mile (gr. I) as a 4-year-old, and the previous year won the Jim Dandy and Peter Pan Stakes (both gr. II).
