(Edited NYRA release)
Macho Again, winner of last year’s Jim Dandy (gr. II), turned in a bullet work before the heaviest of the rains began July 31 as he prepared for the grade I, $750,000 Whitney at Saratoga on Aug. 8.
The son of Macho Uno zipped five furlongs over the Oklahoma training track in 1:00.66, the fastest of 15 at the distance.
"He’s doing great," reported trainer Dallas Stewart. "We were able to get him out before it really started, so he’s in good shape."
Macho Again has two wins in four starts this year, most recently taking the grade I Stephen Foster over Asiatic Boy and Einstein at Churchill Downs on June 13.
Also pointing toward the Whitney are 8-year-old Commentator, who is looking to join Kelso and Discovery as the only three-time winners of the race; Asiatic Boy, Arson Squad, Dry Martini, Finallymadeit, Smooth Air, and Tizway. According to NYRA stakes coordinator Andrew Byrnes, Bullsbay , Researcher, and Vacation are questionable.
