Tony Ferguson said Aug. 4 he has sold his partnership interest in Woodford Thoroughbreds to his partner John Sykes.

“It was necessary to affect the sale to allow me the time to pursue my other business interests,” Ferguson said. “I’m not totally out of the Thoroughbred industry as John and I have formed a new partnership, Woodford Foals, which includes the weanlings and yearlings produced from the Woodford Thoroughbreds mares.

Ferguson said the horses would be sold this year and in 2010, and that Woodford Foals will board its inventory at Woodford Thoroughbreds.

Sykes, who also owns Cloverleaf Farms II, said: “It has been an honor to be associated with Tony in the Thoroughbred business. I look forward to carrying on the tradition and vision Tony and I had in forming Woodford Thoroughbreds.”

The Woodford Thoroughbreds staff is led by general manager Matt Lyons.
