Solis, Gryder Apparently OK After Breakdown

Incident occurred when a horse broke down during the 10th race at Del Mar.

Jockeys Alex Solis and Aaron Gryder apparently escaped injury at Del Mar Aug. 9 when both were unseated following the breakdown of a horse in the 10th race.

Endless Moon, a 3-year-old gelding making his second start in a $25,000 maiden claiming event, broke down on the backstretch, sending Solis to the Polytrack. Gryder was also thrown when his mount, Captain Cash, was unable to avoid the fallen horse. Solis was up almost immediately but Gryder was taken off the track by ambulance. It was later announced that Gryder was apparently okay, although his left hand was being treated with ice.

Endless Moon was euthanized after suffering fractures to both his left front and left hind legs. Captain Cash trailed the field after the accident and was loaded onto an ambulance afterward. An initial report said he may have injured his right foreleg.
