A late afternoon rainstorm knocked out the power at Thistledown, forcing the North Randall track to cancel its final four live races as well as full-card simulcasting wagering on other North American tracks.
"If the power is restored, we should be able to race tomorrow (Tuesday) said Dave Ellsworth, Thistledown's director of operations."We called off the remainder of today's card for safety reasons."
Ellsworth said several boards in the shadow fence that surrounds Thistledown's one-mile racing oval were blown free by the storm. The top of the post that marks Thistledown's finish line was also missing. He said the racing surface weathered the storm without any serious damage.
Post time for the Aug. 11 first race at Thistledown is 1:20 p.m.
