(Edited Journeyman Stud release)
Grade II winner Teuflesberg , whose first foals arrived this year, will stand the 2010 season at Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla.
A 5-year-old son of Johannesburg, Teuflesberg won five of 21 starts and earned $621,981. A stakes winner and grade II-placed at age 2, Teuflesberg won the Woody Stephens Stakes (gr. II) and Southwest Stakes as a 3-year-old. Also at age 3, he finished second in the Carry Back Stakes (gr. II) and Glow Stakes, and was third in the Rebel and Lecomte Stakes, each grade III.
Teuflesberg entered stud at Hurricane Hall near Lexington and is relocating after Hurricane Hall closed earlier this year.
"Teuflesberg is the ideal fit for Florida," said Ben Walden, former general manager of Hurricane Hall. "He was a very good 2-year-old with a tremendous constitution. His speed and class are unquestionable if you look at what he went on to accomplish as a 3-year-old, winning a grade II sprint at Belmont and stretching out around two turns to win the Southwest at Oaklawn. I believe in Teuflesberg, and all of the original shareholders are staying in on the horse. After seeing his first crop of babies here in Kentucky it gives you even more confidence in his potential as a sire.
"Teuflesberg has the speed and pedigree to do great things for our breeders," said Brent Fernung.
The stud fee will be announced later.
