Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie was granted 89 live racing dates for 2010 at the Sept. 15 Texas Racing Commission meeting in Austin, Texas, including a 60-date spring Thoroughbred season that will cover 15 weeks from April to July, 2010. Also, a 60-day live meet beginning in November at Sam Houston Park was approved.
The Lone Star meet opens April 8 with 60 days of live racing every Thursday through Sunday until July 18, except for June 3. There will also be racing on Memorial Day, May 31.
“We’re pleased with the 2010 dates granted us by the Texas Racing Commission and would like to thank the Texas Horsemen’s groups for their continued support and cooperation in negotiating a well-planned racing schedule for Lone Star Park in 2010,” said Lone Star Park president and general manager Drew Shubeck.
Sam Houston will open its 15th Thoroughbred meet Nov. 27, 2009, and run through April 3, 2010. Live Thoroughbred racing events will take place Thursday through Sunday in December (no live racing Dec. 26 and 27); Thursday through Saturday in January; Thursday through Sunday in February; and Thursday through Saturday in March and April.
“We are eager to open our Thoroughbred meet and showcase some of the best live racing in Texas,” said president and chief operating officer Andrea Young. “We have a tremendous opportunity to introduce our Thoroughbred racing fans to the many new improvements and changes to our facility since last year’s hurricane and know that these changes will greatly enhance the live racing product at The Park.”
