(Edited TVG press release)
TVG announced Oct. 1 it will expand and enhance its live programming and wagering options for the leading East Coast horseracing tracks, including Belmont Park and Keeneland.
TVG's increased television coverage of the fall race meets from Belmont and Keeneland follows the company's recent expansion of online wagering opportunities for several tracks on the East coast. Over the last few months, TVG and its parent company Betfair have reached agreements to offer online betting at TVG.com on several tracks including Belmont Park, Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Penn National and Pimlico among others. In addition, TVG recently added Woodbine, the Canadian track offering both Thoroughbred and Standardbred racing, to its portfolio of racetracks.
"Our increased wagering options on East Coast racing demands complementary television coverage and programming that showcases those important race meets," said Gerard Cunningham, president of Betfair US. "We've significantly increased our investment in East Coast racing, which will satisfy the bettors and owners, who pleaded for enhanced race coverage, as well as the tracks and horsemen, who'll see additional revenue from increased wagering."
TVG's trackside coverage of "Super Saturday" from Belmont Park on Oct. 3 will include special programming as well as live broadcasts of the five grade I stakes races, including the Jockey Club Gold Cup, Beldame Stakes, Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, Flower Bowl and Vosburgh. For the opening weekend of Keeneland's fall meet, TVG will provide the exclusive broadcast of five grade I races over three days including the Darley Alcibiades, Shadewell Turf Mile, Dixiana Breeders' Futurity, First Lady and Juddmonte Spinster.
