Interactif Tries Bourbon Stakes Instead

The 2-year-old was scratched out of the Pilgrim Stakes last week at Belmont

With Anticipation (gr. IIIT) winner Interactif, scratched out of Belmont’s off-the-turf Pilgrim Stakes a week ago, will instead try the $125,000 Bourbon Stakes (gr. IIIT) for 2-year-olds Oct. 11 at Keeneland. He is one of three starters entered for Todd Pletcher.

A homebred of Wertheimer and Frere, Interactif was assigned top weight of 123 pounds and will give six pounds to his other 11 rivals in the 1 1/16-mile Bourbon, a “Win and You’re In” race for the $1-million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. IIT) to be run Nov. 7 at Santa Anita. The Bourbon is scheduled to go to post at 5:10 p.m. EDT.
A son of Broken Vow —Broad Pennant, by Broad Brush, Interactif rolled to a 4 1/4-length score in the 1 1/16-mile With Anticipation Sept. 4 at Saratoga, which was his turf debut. The bay colt broke his maiden in July on the Monmouth Park main track but finished eighth in the Sanford (gr. II) later that month at the Spa.
Pletcher assigned Kent Desormeaux to ride Interactif once again, and they will break from post 4.
Wertheimer and Frere and Pletcher have also teamed up to send out Exhi , a son of Maria's Mon who broke his maiden by four lengths in wire-to-wire fashion Sept. 20 on the Belmont turf. John Velazquez will be in the irons.
Pletcher’s third charge is Greenhill Farm’s Modern Cowboy, a son of Tiznow  who broke his maiden in his Aug. 25 debut on the Delaware Park dirt. The bay colt, a $200,000 yearling, will be ridden by Robby Albarado.
Pletcher has won the Bourbon twice, with Twilight Meteor in 2006 and Bittel Road in 2008  .
Also reappearing after scratching out of the Pilgrim is Eli Gindi and Morris Bailey’s Billions Boy, a wire-to-wire 1 1/4 winner in maiden special weight company last month on the Saratoga turf. The runner-up in that race was Pletcher trainee Eskendereya, who came back to win the Pilgrim on Belmont’s main track. Trained by John Kimmel, Billions Boy was a $250,000 yearling. The son of Johannesburg will be piloted by Rajiv Maragh.
