(Edited Magic Millions press release)
Singapore trainer Don Baertschiger made his presence felt during the option two section of the Magic Millions national horses in training sale in on the Gold Coast of Australia Oct. 29. He went to Aust$110,000 ($99,840 in U.S. funds) to secure the day's top seller – a 2-year-old Hidden Dragon –Donnatelle colt. A half-brother to group winner Don't Tell Clang, the colt was consigned by Centaur Park Thoroughbreds.
"He's a really nice colt," Baertschiger said. "He impressed me in his breeze-up (:10.73); he had a lovely action. He should really be suited to our style of racing in Singapore.”
The 131 horses that sold grossed Aust$2,771,000 ($2,551,070) and averaged Aust$21,153 ($19,199). The clearance rate was 74%.
“I'm rapt with the final figures for both sessions (of the auction so far)," said Magic Millions managing director David Chester. "We worked hard in attracting a big buying bench to the Gold Coast, and we were rewarded with really positive results."
"Today alone we had horses sold to most states of Australia as well as Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Iran."
