Monat to Serve on Illinois Racing Board

The former jockey will take the position of commissioner.

Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn Nov. 9 announced the appointment of Allan Monat to serve as a commissioner of the Illinois Racing Board.

Monat, a resident of Northbrook, Ill., is the owner/operator of Metro Real Estate Inspections, a residential home inspection business serving home buyers, lending institutions, and local governments. From 2002 to 2007, he served on the State of Illinois Home Inspector Advisory Board.

A former professional jockey, Monat competed on the Chicago racing circuit from 1974 to 1984. While riding at the Chicago area Thoroughbred racetracks, he served as the Jockeys’ Guild representative. Following his riding career, he was a business agent for professional jockeys, negotiating riding agreements with horse trainers and owners. Monat replaces former commissioner Dennis Bookshester.
