Sea The Stars Favored For Cartier Awards

Sea The Stars odds-on to be brightest star at Cartier Awards ceremony

Sea The Stars, whose six group I wins this year include the Two Thousand Guineas, the Investec Epsom Derby, and the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, is favored to win two prizes when the 2009 Cartier Racing Awards are announced Nov. 17. The son of Cape Cross is nominated for Horse of the Year and best 3-year-old male.

Conduit, winner of the Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Turf (gr. IT) for the second straight year, is a contestant for Horse of the Year and older horse. Same goes for Goldikova , who won her second consecutive Breeders’ Cup Mile (gr. IT, sponsored this year by TVG).

Other Cartier Award finalists with 2009 Breeders’ Cup wins are Pounced, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (gr. IIT), in the 2-year-old colt division, and Midday, who won the Emirates Airline Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (gr. IT). She is a nominee in the 3-year-old filly division.

The Cartier Racing Awards are determined by points earned in pattern races, combined with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists, as well as votes from readers of the Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph.

One person will receive the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award Of Merit, which in the past has been won by the Queen, Sheikh Mohammed, Henry Cecil, Khalid Abdullah, John Magnier, the Aga Khan, Frankie Dettori, Henry Cecil, and Lester Piggott.
