Lease of Life Brings $110,000 at Keeneland

The 4-year-old Cozzene colt is a full brother to dual grade I winner Mizzen Mast.

Lease of Life, sold as a racing or stallion prospect, brought $110,000 to highlight the Nov. 21 session of Keeneland’s November breeding stock sale.

Jay Manoogian purchased the 4-year-old colt by Cozzene from Mill Ridge Sales, agent. Lease of Life is out of the Graustark mare Kinema, and is a full brother to Malibu (gr. I) and Strub (gr. II) Stakes winner Mizzen Mast.

Zuri Ridge brought the day’s second-highest price of $90,000 from Lane’s End Bloodstock. A 13-year-old daughter of Cox's Ridge out of the Danzig mare Zuri, Zuri’s Ridge is a half-sister to Voodoo Dancer (by Kingmambo), a grade I-winning millionaire and a multiple stakes producer. She was consigned by Brookdale Sales, agent for the complete dispersal of Windfields Farm.

Zuri Ridge’s 4-year-old Silver Deputy colt Pool Play captured the Oct. 4 Durham Cup Stakes (Can-III) at Woodbine. The mare is in foal to successful young stallion City Zip, who has had six stakes winners this year, including grade III victor Get Serious.

On Nov. 21, Keeneland sold 154 horses for gross receipts of $1,195,800, a decrease of 52.5% from 2008 when 209 horses brought $2,517,000. The session average of $7,765 was down 35.5% from last year’s $12,043, while the median decreased 58.8% from $8,500 to $3,500.

To date, a total of 2,648 horses have grossed $158,924,200, down 12.4% from last year when 2,438 horses sold for $181,386,000. The average of $60,017 represents a 19.33% decrease from $74,400 in 2008. The median was down 25% from $28,000 a year ago to $21,000 this year.

The November Sale concludes Nov. 22.
