Keeneland January Catalog Down 26.3%

Fewer horses cataloged for first major sale of 2010.

Keeneland Association announced Nov. 24 it has cataloged 1,753 horses for its 2010 January Horses of All Ages Sale, to be held Monday-Friday, January 11-15.

That represents a 26.3% decline from the 2008 catalog, which totaled 2,379 horses

Catalogs for the January sale will be available at beginning Tuesday, Dec. 8. Print catalogs will be mailed the week of Dec. 21.

Comprising the 1,753 horses cataloged in January are 730 broodmares, 691 yearlings, 254 racing or broodmare prospects, 77 horses of racing age, and one share in Monarchos.

"The January Sale offers a particularly good selection of short yearlings," said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales. "Given the strength of November weanling sales, it will provide another opportunity for the market to move forward as the industry continues to adjust to the new market reality."
