Crystal Bull, an 11-year-old daughter of Holy Bull in foal to Pollard's Vision , was purchased by Federico Barberino, agent, for $95,000 to top the Dec. 7 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December Mixed Sale.
Consigned by Mr. and Mrs. Rick Abbott’s Charlton, Crystal Bull is the dam of Italian stakes winner Air Crew, a 2-year-old son of Pollard’s Vision. The mare was in-foal to Pollard’s Vision, the 2004 Illinois Derby (gr. II) winner, on a May 23 cover.
Produced from the multiple stakes-winning Crystal Water mare Water Crystals, Crystal Bull is a half-sister to stakes winner Track Gossip, the dam of multiple grade III winner Crash Course.
Fasig-Tipton reported 169 horses sold for a gross of $776,300, which was down 33.6% from the 2008 total of $1,169,400 for the 186 horses sold. This year’s average price of $4,593 represented a decline of 26.9% from the 2008 average of $6,287, and the $2,000 median was down 33.3% from the $3,000 median last year. The 100 horses that did not sell represented an RNA rate of 37.2%, up slightly over the 2008 RNA rate of 36.9%.
