Interaction, a 3-year-old son of Easing Along, won the Gran Premio Carlos Pellegrini (Arg I) at 2400 meters-(1 1/2 miles) on turf at San Isidro Racetrack, in Buenos Aires, Argentina Dec. 12. A crowd of 73,574 was on hand for the victory by Interaction, who made his career debut exactly one year to the day of his biggest career win.
Previous winner of the Jockey Club (Arg-I), the third leg of the Argentine Triple Crown, Interaction won by three lengths over Life of Victory. The Brazilian-bred Jeune-Turc was a length back in third.
"I am learning to ride", joked Talaverano, a Peruvian who won 11 Argentinian grade I races during 2009.
Edwin Talaverano, the jockey of Interaction, also rode Maruco Plus to victory in the Joaquin de Anchorena (Arg-I) at a mile on turf, and was aboard Lloron Cat to win the Felix de Alzaga Unzue (Arg-I) at five furlongs on-turf. It was the first time the same jockey guided the winners of the three grade I races at the meeting. Lloron Cat’s victory alo provided the second grade I win during the day to his sire, Easing Along.
He started the international meeting at San Isidro a week earlier, guiding Kalath Wells (Poliglote) to her fourth triumph in a row, in the Gran Premio Copa de Plata (Arg-I). This was for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up. Talaverano was a leading jockey in Peru when Haras de La Pomme hired him in 1999. At that time he was guiding Asidero to win his third Carlos Pellegrini. Before that, he was riding Laredo and Freggy¹s, winners in that race, both for Peruvian Stud Myrna.
Talaverano returned to his native country in 2002 and once more he became the number one rider at Monterrico, the racetrack in Lima. But things went better in Argentina, and the rider and he returned to that country in 2005.
"This is my best year in Argentina" Talaverano said Dec. 12 after the rallies with Interaction and Maruco Plus, and the wire to wire performance of Lloron Cat.
To keep in shape, a 45 year-old Talaverano practices boxing in the gymnasium at the jockeys and trainers area in San Isidro. He went there on the morning of Dec. 12.
"I had to ride with 54 kg (119 lbs) in the Pellegrini so I was trotting alone in the sauna. You could not even hear the sound of a fly," said Talaverano, who has five children and is married to Carmen.
Interaction was bred in Argentina by Haras Futuro. His owners, Jorge Cardemil and Fernando Fantini Jr are Chileans. His trainer is the Argentine Alfredo Gaitan Dassie.
