She Be Wild, an Eclipse Award finalist following her victory in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I), worked a half-mile in :50.60 Jan. 14 at Gulfstream Park as she continues her preparation for her 3-year-old campaign.
“I got her faster,” said trainer Wayne Catalano, who will travel to California for the Jan. 18 Eclipse Award dinner. “I got my tux yesterday. I think she should win it. She went out there and beat that other filly on her home track (finalist Blind Luck, third in the Breeders’ Cup).
“The goal for her is the Ashland (gr. I) at Keeneland and the (Kentucky) Oaks (gr. I, Churchill Downs on April 30). We’ll get her started here. There are several options next month on the main track or possibly turf,” said Catalano, who guided the career of 2006 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies winner and champion Dreaming of Anna.
She Be Wild, owned by Nancy Mazzoni, is a daughter of leading freshman sire Offlee Wild. She won her first three starts at Arlington Park, including the Arlington-Washington Lassie (gr.III), and finished second by a half-length in the Alcibiades (gr.I) at Keeneland for her lone defeat prior to winning the Juvenile Fillies by three-quarters of a length over Beautician, with Blind Luck another head back in third.
