Easter Sale Has More Than 600 Yearlings

Lots in Australian auction include Makybe Diva's second foal.

(Edited William Inglis & Son press release)

William Inglis & Son has cataloged 614 horses for its Easter yearling sale, which will be held April 6-8 at Newmarket in Australia. The horses listed in the book include 173 out of stakes-winning mares. There are 44 progeny of group-I winning dams. The offerings also include 172 siblings of stakes winners, 51 of which were group I winners.

There have been two high-profile additions since a preview of the auction's prospects was released in December 2009.  Tony Santic has opted to sell the great Makybe Diva’s second foal, a filly by Fusaichi Pegasus, while the Southern Hemiphere's most expensive purchase, Milanova, will be represented by an Encosta de Lago filly consigned by Coolmore Stud.

“Once again we have been fortunate to receive great support from all of Australasia’s leading breeders, with their best horses being aimed at the Easter sale,” said Inglis Bloodstock Director Jonathan D’Arcy.

“This year’s catalog has a good mix of proven top class stallions like Encosta de Lago, Redoute’s Choice, Flying Spur, Zabeel, and More Than Ready  intertwined with strong drafts from up and comers like Fastnet Rock, Stratum, Snitzel, and Starcraft.”

Redoute’s Choice has 47 yearlings in the auction. Encosta de Lago is the most represented sire with 57 yearlings, while Flying Spur has 55. Other sires with big drafts include Fastnet Rock (44), Exceed And Excel (33), More Than Ready (29), and Rock of Gibraltar (29).

New Zealand legend Zabeel has 14 Easter offspring while his grandson, Lonhro, has 13.

Easter II has 114 yearlings cataloged.

“This is without doubt the best group of horses seen in this session and once again we are grateful for the support of our clients,” D’Arcy said.
