PA Stallion Auction to Benefit Old Friends

The bidding on about 40 seasons will be confidential.

A charity auction of about 40 seasons to Pennsylvania stallions will be held Feb. 14–16 to benefit the Old Friends non-proft Thoroughbred retirement farm in Kentucky.

The auction is being organized by Jane White, a resident of Bensalem, Pa., and the stallion representative for Buzzards Bay and Fastness, who stand at Timber Ridge Farm. All bidding is confidential and will be conducted entirely through White’s email or phone. No bids will be published during the auction either. Winning bidders must pay for the season by March 1, and all proceeds go to Old Friends.

All the foals resulting from the donated seasons must be registered as Pennsylvania-breds or the full stud fee will be due.

“The idea is to get another mare to a Pennsylvania stallion, to help the breeder save a lot of money on the stud fee, and to help the charity in caring for horses,” White said. “The bidder’s stud fee savings leaves more dollars for the breeder to get that Pennsylvania-bred foal to the races.”

Old Friends is operated on the 92-acre Dream Chase Farm near Georgetown, Ky. It has more than 80 horses in its care and relies entirely on donations from the industry. The facility cares for several well known pensioners including Gulch, Ogygian, Wallenda, Sunshine Forever, Williamstown, and Will’s Way.
The bids are all no-guarantee seasons with a breed-back possible in 2011 if necessary.

Participating stallions include:  Action This Day, Activist, Al Khaaser, Al Zaaeem, Austin Powers, Barbican, Basketball Court, Buzzards Bay, Cetewayo, Changeintheweather, City Sharpster, Digamist, Duckhorn, Eastern Daydream, Elbader, Fastness, Golden Whistler, Gulf Storm, Harley Quinn, Harry the Hat, Just Beforemidnite, Kentucky Pride, Misbah, Ocean Splash, Officer Of The Day, Power By Far, Prince Joseph, Purse Precision, Quarry, Reigning King, Revival Song, Rimrod , Sir Shackleton, Southern Success, Talent Search, Tekken, The Badger’s Comin, This Fleet Is Due, and Wiseman's Ferry.
