Fountain of Youth (gr. II) winner Eskendereya was the individual favorite, but the "All Others" bet remained the overall future wagering choice after Day 2 of Pool 2 in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
Eskendereya, one of trainer Todd Pletcher’s record six KDFW betting interests and now the favorite for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), ended March 6 wagering as the 6-1 favorite among the 23 individual horses in the pool, but the mutuel field, which includes all 3-year-olds other than those 23 horses, was the 3-1 overall favorite.
Eskendereya was the 9-1 third choice after the March 5 opening day of Pool 2 betting. Dublin was the 8-1 third choice after Day 2 betting, while reigning 2-year-old champion Lookin At Lucky was fourth choice at 9-1.
A total of $94,128 was wagered March 6 to increase the Pool 2 total to $143,609. The two-day total includes $41,494 in exacta betting. The March 7 final day of betting in Pool 2 is scheduled to open at noon (all times EST). Betting will conclude at 6 p.m.
The winners of the two major Kentucky Derby prep races March 6 -- Awesome Act, winner of the Gotham Stakes (gr. III), and Alphie's Bet, winner of the Sham (gr. III) – are not among the KDFW Pool 2’s individual betting interests and are members of the "all others" interest.
Despite finishing third earlier in the day as the heavy favorite in the Santa Anita Oaks (gr. I), Blind Luckremained a solid 9-2 favorite to win the 136th running of the Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) at the end of the second of three days in the 2010 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager. Santa Anita Oaks winner Crisp closed at 19-1 after she had opened the day’s betting at 21-1. Despite her big effort, runner-up All Due Respect remained a 66-1 risk.
A total of $18,434 was wagered March 6 to bring the pool’s total to $27,785. The March 7 final day of betting in the KOFW pool is set to resume at noon (all times EST) on Sunday, March 7. Wagering will conclude at 6:30 p.m., 30 minutes after the close of betting in the companion Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
