The Breeders’ Cup World Championships has been selected as a nominee in the sports event of the year category for the 2010 Sports Business Awards presented by Street & Smith’s Sports Business Journal and Sports Business Daily.

Single games or events, or event series that occurred in North America, for professional or collegiate teams, sanctioning bodies or national governing bodies were eligible.
According to a release, winners will be announced at an awards gala at the New York Marriott Marquis in New York City May 20.
The other nominees in the sports event of the year category are: Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, MLB All-Star Game, Super Bowl XLIV, and U.S. Open (tennis).
"The Breeders' Cup trustees have set the ambitious goal for our championships to be one of the elite sporting events in the world and it is very gratifying to everyone at the Breeders' Cup that the Sports Business Journal has recognized our 2009 event as among the very best in sports," said Greg Avioli, Breeders' Cup president and CEO, in a statement.
"Zenyatta's spectacular performance in the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) helped shine the spotlight on our event. We want to thank her connections and all the owners and nominators who competed as well as our sponsors, our hosts from the Oak Tree Racing Association, Santa Anita, and the state of California for their part in staging the 2009 Championships."
