Seven Turf Sprinters Assemble For Shakertown

Chamberlain Bridge and Silver Timber are among the notables

Michael Dubb and High Grade Racing Stable’s Silver Timber, winner of the 2009 Woodford (gr. IIIT), and Carl Moore Management’s Chamberlain Bridge, winner of that race the year prior, headline a field seven turf sprinters entered for the $100,000 Shakertown Stakes (gr. IIIT) at 5 1/2 furlongs on the Keeneland grass April 10.

The Shakertown goes as the sixth race on the Keeneland card with a 3:47 p.m. EST post. The Woodford is also a turf sprint for older horses at the same distance during the Keeneland fall meet.
Trained by Chad Brown, Silver Timber will be making his 2010 debut after closing 2009 with a sixth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint in November at Santa Anita. The 7-year-old gelded son of Prime Timber is a nine-time winner with earnings of $411,108. He was bred in New York by Sez Who Thoroughbreds.
Julien Leparoux, who has ridden Silver Timber in his past two starts, has the call.
On the inside will be Chamberlain Bridge, who opened 2010 with a victory in the Colonel Power Stakes Feb. 20 at Fair Grounds. Jamie Theriot, who was aboard for that triumph, is slated to ride the 6-year-old gelding by War Chant.
Bred in Kentucky by Eugene Melnyk, Chamberlain Bridge was third by a head during a three-way photo in last season’s Shakertown, which was won by Heroes Reward. The Bret Calhoun trainee will be seeking his 13th victory.
Making his season debut will be Wertheimer and Frere’s Affirmatif for trainer Todd Pletcher. The 4-year-old son of Unbridled's Song raised eyerebrows when breaking his maiden by nine lengths last year on the Gulfstream Park turf and won the Woodlawn Stakes in decisive fashion a couple starts later at Pimlico. But Affirmatif has not hit the winner’s circle in his last four starts and has been off since September when third in Monmouth Park’s Gilded Time Stakes. Garrett Gomez has the mount.
