Sixty Sails: Wolfson Duo Seek Smooth Sailing

Jessica Is Back, Miss Singhsix headline a field of eight set at Hawthorne.

Eleven-time winner Jessica Is Back, coming off a nine-length romp in the Ocala Stakes at Gulfstream Park one month ago, is the 5-2 morning line favorite in Hawthorne's $200,000 Sixty Sails Handicap (gr. III) April 17.

The Sixty Sails, for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles, is the final graded stakes of the Hawthorne Park 2010 spring season, which ends April 25. Eight were entered in the main track event, which is the eighth race on the program with a probable post time of 4:54 p.m.

Trainer Marty Wolfson has both the favorite and the second choice entered in the Sixty Sails in Jessica Is Back and Irish-bred mare Miss Singhsix.

Owned by Farnsworth Stables, the 6-year-old Jessica Is Back dominated the one-mile Ocala from the start, winning as the 1-2 favorite.  The Florida-bred daughter of Put It Back has had 41 starts in her career, finishing in the money in 25 of those. She posted a solid second behind Sweet Repent in her only prior start at nine furlongs in the $300,000 Sunshine Millions Distaff Jan. 30.

Elvis Trujillo has the return engagement on the $506,385 earner Jessica Is Back, who drew post 3.

Team Valor International's 5-year-old Miss Singhsix, the 116-pound high weight in an evenly matched field, is 7-2 on the morning line. With Eddie Razo aboard her for the first time, she'll break right next to Jessica Is Back in post 4.

A multiple graded stakes-placed runner who was formerly based in Southern California, Miss Singhsix is coming off a good third in the Rampart Stakes (gr. III) at Gulfstream Park March 20, finishing less than two lengths behind the victorious Unrivaled Belle. In her only other start this year, Miss Singhsix won a stakes at Laurel Park a month earlier.

Life At Ten, on a three-race winning streak for trainer Todd Pletcher, makes her graded stakes debut in the Sixty Sails. The 5-year-old mare, owned by Cynthia DeBartolo, arrives off a pair of stakes scores on the inner track at Aqueduct, including a 5 1/4-length tally in the nine-furlong Rare Treat in her most recent try Feb. 20.

Chicago newcomer Michael Baze gets the call on the daughter of Malibu Moon . Life at Ten, who must contend with the far outside post, is pegged at 9-2 in the morning line.

Team Block's Never Retreat, a stakes winner at Fair Grounds in January, makes her Hawthorne debut for trainer Richard Scherer. The 5-year-old Smart Strike filly ran in three stakes in New Orleans this year, resulting in a win, a second by a nose, and most recently, a third-place showing in the Bayou Handicap March 26. Regular rider James Graham is aboard the early 5-1 shot who breaks from the rail.

Also likely to get some attention is NYKY Thoroughbred Stable's Starship Angel, who won a stakes on the inner dirt at Aqueduct in her most recent race March 18. Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, the 4-year-old daughter of Running Stag ran second to Life At Ten in the Rare Treat prior to that.

Afleet Deceit, coming off a victory at Oaklawn Park, grade III winner Peach Brew, and Fighter Wing complete the field.
