A Bardstown, Ky., butcher shop has entered into an endorsement deal with Churchill Downs-based Dale Romans, whose stable includes Paddy O'Prado, the third place finisher in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I).
According to the announcement, the arrangement with Romans will give Boone’s the rights to include Romans’ image in all TV, radio, newspaper and interactive media spots between May 2010 and April 2011. It will also include an appearance and autograph signing at the Bardstown store to be announced at a later date.
Paddy O’Prado, owned by Donegal Racing (Jerry Crawford), also finished second in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) previous to his Derby effort. Romans saddled his first Breeders’ Cup winner when Tapitsfly won the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
Luel A. Boone founded Boone’s Butcher Shop in 1946. It is now owned by Boone’s son, Jerry, and his wife, Donna, and their son Matthew.
"It’s a great fit for us to have someone of his caliber, background and winning tradition associated with our company," Matthew Boone said.
Romans said his family has been using the Boone’s product for years, especially at Derby-related events.
