Jockey Fernando Jara will be moving his tack to Delaware Park beginning May 15. The 22-year-old Panama native who won the Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) with Invasor and the Belmont Stakes (gr. I) with Jazil, both in 2006, has been named to ride the Todd Pletcher trainee Hudson Steele in the eighth race for his first mount.
“I decided to come to Delaware Park because it is a new experience and I had an opportunity to ride some for Todd Pletcher,” Jara said. “It is good to have someone like that behind you coming into a meet at a new track. I am going to work hard to try to get more horses and hopefully we can do well.”
At the age of 18, Jara became the youngest jockey to win a Breeders’ Cup race when he rode Invasor to victory in the Classic. The following year, he notched a victory in the Dubai World Cup (UAE-I) at Nad al Sheba aboard the Argentina-bred trained by Kiaran McLaughlin.
