The Name Game: WinStar Sponsors Sweepstakes

Visitors to the WinStar Farm Web site can help select names for 2010 foals

In honor of the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) victory of Super Saver , WinStar Farm is sponsoring the"Super Name Sweepstakes" at the farm’s Web site.

The sweepstakes, designed to coincide with the Preakness Stakes (gr. I), provides racing fans the opportunity to help select the name for the half-brother to the Kentucky Derby winner born April 11, 2010. The colt is by Medaglia d'Oro and was produced from Super Saver’s dam, Supercharger.

The winning entry, as selected by WinStar Farm, will become the official name of the foal (subject to The Jockey Club registration approval), according to a WinStar release. The winning entrant also will receive a $100 gift certificate to the WinStar Farm online store and a 50% share of any winnings resulting from a $1,000 win bet placed on Super Saver at the 2010 Preakness, according to the release. The other 50% of the winnings will be distributed to a charity of WinStar Farm’s choice.

Two runner-up winners, selected at random, will receive gift certificates to the WinStar Farm online store. Details, including rules and prizes, are available at There is a tie-breaker for multiple entries of the same winning name, as there will be only one winner of the first prize.

"This contest allows WinStar Farm to let all of its fans know how much we value their participation in all of WinStar Farm’s online offerings," WinStar president Doug Cauthen said in a statement. "This contest not only puts the spotlight on Super Saver, but also captures the fun and challenge of naming a Thoroughbred foal. We cannot wait to see all of the entries!"

The contest began May 11 and runs until 6 p.m. on Preakness Day. All entries, to be eligible for the prizes, must be in no later than Saturday, May 15, at 6 p.m. EDT. Winners will be notified after the Preakness.

The 2010 Preakness airs live on NBC, beginning at 5 p.m. EDT, with official post time for the Preakness of 6:12 p.m. EDT.
