Dubai Majesty sprinted home to defend her title in the Winning Colors Stakes at Churchill Downs.

Dubai Majesty put away favored Hot Dixie Chick at the top of the lane and sprinted home to defend her title in the $110,500 Winning Colors Stakes (gr. III) (VIDEO) May 31 at Churchill Downs in stakes record time.

The 5-year-old daughter of Essence of Dubai became the first repeat winner of the Winning Colors, which she won by 4 1/2 lengths under Miguel Mena. The dark bay or brown mare won the six-furlong race by a length a year ago. Bret Calhoun trains Dubai Majesty for Martin Racing Stable and Dan Morgan.

Dubai Majesty enjoyed a comfortable stalking trip under Mena, sitting just off of pacesetter Hot Dixie Chick. A grade I winner in last year’s Spinaway Stakes, Hot Dixie Chick was the lone 3-year-old in the Winning Colors field. She sprinted through splits of :21.80 and :44.54 under Robby Albarado before being collared by Dubai Majesty at the top of the lane.

Dubai Majesty completed the six furlongs on a fast main track in 1:08.07 for her ninth win in 29 career starts. The previous stakes record mark was established by Miss Macy Sue with a 1:08.68 clicking in 2007. Secret Gypsy was a length better than Hot Dixie Chick for runner-up.

"She ran great today," Calhoun said. "Miguel had her stalking behind (Hot Dixie Chick) and when he asked her she made a great move. We knew she had this in her.

"We don’t have a race yet picked out for her, but we will see how she comes back. We will look at either a grass race or dirt. We want to try her on grass at some point. She really ran great.”

The winner was bred in Florida by Harold Plumley and is out of the Great Above mare Great Majesty. She has now earned $681,343.

Dubai Majesty paid $6.80, $4.20, and $2.80. The exacta (8-4) returned $95.20 and the trifecta (8-4-5) was $524.20.
