Singspiel's Stud Career Unsettling

Singspiel's fertility problems cause great concern over his future as a stallion.

Singspiel, a major winner across the globe and the sire of 76 stakes winners, might be at the end of his stallion career because of fertility problems. The problems initially were diagnosed in March, and they have not improved. Singspiel stands at Sheikh Mohammed’s Dalham Hall Stud near Newmarket, England.

“Singspiel has been covering mares without any satisfactory results,” Sam Bullard, director of stallions at Dalham Hall, told the Racing Post. “We will need to be able to give breeders some positive news before the start of next season if we are to market him to them, and at the moment we don’t have any positive news.”

Irish-bred Singspiel (In the Wings—Glorious Song, by Halo) was Northern America’s turf champion of 1996 and a major winner in England, Japan, and Dubai. He has sired numerous champions and graded or group winners, including Miss Singhsix, winner of the June 12 Obeah Stakes (gr. III) at Delaware Park.
