Del Mar Partners With California Casino

Deal links California seaside track with resort and casino located in wine country.

Del Mar Thoroughbred Club announced June 18 that the California track and Pechanga Resort & Casino have entered into a partnership that will benefit customers of both venues, starting this summer.

"This is a perfect fit for us," Del Mar president and general manager Craig Fravel said in a statement. "Pechanga is a first-class venue with a winning attitude--the kind of place Del Mar people expect and appreciate. It’s truly a mutually beneficial partnership."

According to the release, Pechanga’s amenities include a 517-room resort and spa, a 200,000-square-foot casino that is the largest in the western U.S., eight restaurants, spa, a 1,200-seat theater, three nightclubs and lounges, a convention area with hospitality suites and meeting rooms, and a championship 18-hole Journey at Pechanga golf course "which has been ranked as one of the best new public courses in the nation." The resort is located in the Temecula wine region of California.

"Pechanga is pleased to partner with Del Mar in order to enhance the amenities offered to our players and theirs," said John Palinkas, president of the Pechanga Development Corporation. "It was only a matter time before California’s premier casino would join with California’s premier racetrack to increase the world-class gaming opportunities that residents and tourists alike can enjoy."

As part of the arrangement, Del Mar customers will receive incentive offers at Pechanga such as discounts on food and beverage, hotel/golf packages and gaming benefits. In addition, Pechanga will customize specific offers for Del Mar’s horsemen, including an industry poker event, the release said. Members of The Club, Pechanga’s rewards program, will receive Del Mar perks such as free admission and seating on select days.

In a promotion between the two partners, Del Mar and Pechanga are teaming up a glassware giveaway, featuring champion Zenyatta, at the track on Saturday, Aug. 7. The undefeated mare is expected to be on hand that afternoon and could go to post as the favorite in that day’s feature, the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (gr. I).
