Rachel Alexandra, Zenyatta Halters Auctioned

Halters from superstar female runners will benefit the Race For Eduation.

Halters from Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra and undefeated mare Zenyatta are now being auctioned on ebay.com to benefit The Race for Education.

The Rachel Alexandra halter was donated by trainer Steve Asmussen and his assistant Scott Blasi, while the Zenyatta halter was donated by trainer John Shirreffs.

To place a bid go to www.ebay.com and type in Zenyatta halter (Item #140422158433) or Rachel Alexandra halter (Item #140422509526). Bidding will end on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 at 10:22 PDT for Zenyatta’s halter and on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at 9:27 PDT for Rachel Alexandra’s halter.

According to The Race for Education, the organization enables children of low-income equine industry families, as well as youth who want to pursue an equine-related career, to obtain a college degree by providing tuition support.

In addition, the Race for Education provides students with financial literacy training to help them learn how to minimize their debt load, mentoring services and assistance in finding career-related internships during college as well as permanent jobs upon graduation. Since 2002, The Race for Education has awarded nearly $3 million in multi-year scholarships to young people throughout the United States.
