George Washington Filly Wins First Start

Date With Destiny is George Washington's sole offspring.

Date With Destiny, the only foal sired by two-time Cartier Award winner George Washington, won July 9 at Newbury in England in her first start. The victory came at seven furlongs for owner Mrs. J. Wood.

Bred in Ireland by Lael Stables, George Washington (Danehill—Bordighera, by Alysheba) entered stud in 2007 at John Magnier and partners’ Coolmore Stud in Ireland following a career in which he won four group I stakes, including the Stan James Two Thousand Guineas.

He proved infertile, siring only Date With Destiny. Returned to training and reunited with trainer Aidan O’Brien, George Washington raced four more times. His last start came in the 2007 Breeders’ Cup Classic (gr. I) over a muddy track at Monmouth Park, where he broke down and was euthanized.

Azienda Agricola Loreto Luciani is the breeder of Irish-bred Date With Destiny, who is a half-sister to French group winner Ombre Legere and is out of the Rainbow Quest mare Flawlessly.
