Points of Grace Eyes Dance Smartly Repeat

The daughter of Point Given won the event last season at 13-1.

Defending titleholder Points of Grace and last out Eatontown Handicap (gr. IIIT) victor Gypsy's Warning are the ones to beat in the $300,000 Dance Smarty Stakes (Can-IIIT) July 18 at Woodbine.

A field of six was entered for the 1 1/8-mile turf contest for fillies and mares, a race that Live Oak Plantation’s Points of Grace scored by 2 1/4 lengths in wire-to-wire fashion last season as a 13-1 outsider. The 5-year-old daughter of Point Given ended a successful 2009—a season in which she won five times—with a victory in the one-mile River Memorial Stakes at Woodbine over the soft going.
In her lone start this year, Points of Grace tired to finish fourth in the Nassau Stakes (Can-IIIT) on June 5. The Malcolm Pierce trainee has worked four times since the race. She will be once again be ridden by Luis Contreras.
Overall, the chestnut mare, who was bred in Kentucky by Gary and Cindy Falter and the Thoroughbred Corporation and is out of the Topsider mare Fateful, is 6-2-0 from 12 starts with earnings of more than $400,000.
Top weight of 125 pounds will be carried by Team Valor International and Green Lantern Stables’ Gypsy’s Warning, who got up by a nose in the 1 1/16-mile Eatontown June 5 on the Monmouth Park turf course despite racing off a nearly one-year layoff. That was the North American debut for the 5-year-old daughter of Mogok.
Gypsy’s Warning is a two time group I winner in her native South Africa, including the South African Fillies’ Classic last year. She is now trained by Graham Motion.
Roger Attfield, a two-time winner of this race, will send out a pair of entrants, including Three Chimneys Racing and David O’Rourke’s Ave, who was third in her first two U.S. starts earlier this year—both grade III contests. The 4-year-old English-bred daughter of Danehill Dancer is a group II winner in Ireland. Attfield's other entry is Mekong Melody. Mark Frostad-trained Magic Broomstick rounds out the field.
