The Breeders’ Cup is now accepting registration for a two-day handicapping tournament to be conducted during this year’s World Championships on Nov. 5-6 at Churchill Downs.
According to a release, the Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge will feature a potential prize pool of $340,000 and will be limited to 120 contestants. Player information.
Based on a full field of 120 players, the contest will have a $175,000 first prize. Entry to the contest requires a $10,000 buy-in from each contestant. The entry fee will be divided, with $7,500 being the player’s betting bankroll and $2,500 dedicated to the prize pool. Players retain any monies remaining in their bankroll at the end of the tournament. A $500 deposit is required to reserve a seat, with the remaining $9,500 due Nov. 1, 2010.
Prize money will be paid to the top 10 finishers in the tournament, which will be held in the Gold Room on the sixth floor at Churchill Downs. The top six finishers will also qualify for the Daily Racing Form’s and NTRA National Handicapping Championship, with an estimated $1 million prize pool to be held Jan. 28-29, 2011 in Las Vegas. The top three finishers will also receive Steuben crystal tropies.
All registered players will receive a full buffet each day, clubhouse credentials for themselves and a guest, discounted hotel rooms, and a gift package of merchandise, according to the Breeders’ Cup.
Players may qualify for up to 16 spots in this year’s Breeders’ Cup Betting Challenge through online tournaments at www.BCqualify.com.
