Champion and classic winner Bernardini came through with his first winner when his daughter A Z Warrior won at Hollywood Park July 15 in her first start. A homebred for Zayat Stables, A Z Warrior scored by a 1 1/2 lengths in 1:04.14 for the 5 1/2 furlongs (VIDEO).
A Kentucky-bred, A Z Warrior is a half-sister to graded stakes winner E Z Warrior and added-money winner J Z Warrior and is the fifth winner from as many foals of racing age out of the stakes-placed Carson City mare Carson Jen.
Bernardini (A.P. Indy—Cara Rafaela, by Quiet American) won the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) and two other grade I stakes the year of his 3-year-old championship in 2006. He stands at Sheikh Mohammed’s Darley near Lexington. His 2010 fee was $60,000.
