Posse Gelding Tops Indiana Sale

Gross receipts were up 23.6% and average price increased by 12.4%.

Benji Blues, a 2-year-old son of Posse out of the stakes-winning Take Me Out mare Susie Blues, sold for $65,000 to top the July 25 horses of racing age sale conducted by the Indiana Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association at Hoosier Park.

Consigned by Elliott Farms, the Indiana-bred gelding was purchased by Hunt and Smith Ventures. Bred by Swifty Farms, Benji Blues had previously been purchased for $9,500 at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale.

ITOBA reported 22 Thoroughbreds were sold for $224,900, up 23.6% from the 2009 gross of $181,900 with 20 horses sold. This year’s average price of $10,223 represented a 12.4% increase over the $9,095 average the previous year.

The 14 horses that did not sell reflected an RNA rate of 38.9% compared with 39.4% last year. One of two Quarter Horses consigned to the sale was also sold, for $1,300.
