In preparation for Golden Gate’s 2010 summer-fall meeting, which begins Aug. 25, scheduled maintenance was performed on the Tapeta Footings artificial surface July 24-25.
Golden Gate Fields track superintendent Juan Meza, along with a team from Tapeta Footings, added fibers and wax to the mile main track oval.
"We constantly strive to keep our racing surface in top condition for our horses, exercise riders, jockeys, trainers, owners, and the betting public," Robert Hartman, general manager of Golden Gate Fields said in a release. "A safe, consistent racetrack obviously benefits everyone involved in horse racing, and we offer just such a surface here at Golden Gate Fields."
Hartman said the addition of the fibers and wax "rejuvenates" the Tapeta surface, which was installed at Golden Gate in the summer of 2007.
