Iowa breeder/owner Maggi Moss will be inducted into the Prairie Meadows Hall of Fame Aug. 6 at the racetrack. The evening’s second race has been named in her honor.

Moss has won more than 500 races at Prairie Meadows and has been the track’s leading owner eight of the last 10 years. Nationally, she has won more than 1,300 races since she entered racing in 1998.

Moss was the nation’s leading owner by wins in 2006 and an Eclipse Award nominee in 2007. This year, she earned her second owner’s title at Churchill Downs.

A Des Moines trial attorney, Moss has worked to ban horse slaughter and has been a prominent figure in horse rescue and retirement efforts.

A horsewoman all her life, Moss competed in the first U.S. Grand Prix jumping championship. She was a three-time national equestrian champion at Madison Square Garden, and she has been an equestrian analyst for ESPN show jumping broadcasts.
