Remington Park Season to Start Aug. 19

More than 1,000 horses are currently on the grounds.

Preparations are ongoing as horsemen ready their Thoroughbreds for this year's 67-day Remington Park season, which begins Aug. 19.

The Remington Park stable area continues to fill with horses moving in for the season. More than 1,000 horses are currently on the grounds as occupancy moves closer to capacity.

The Remington Park racing office will close nominations for the first two stakes of the season Aug. 12, compiling lists of eligible horses for the $200,000 Remington Park Sprint Cup and the $150,000 Governor’s Cup. Both races will be contested Saturday, Aug. 21.

The opening night racing program will be assembled Aug. 14 as entries are taken for the first card of the season. The top three races offered in the condition book for Aug. 19 include a $31,200 maiden event for 2-year-old Oklahoma-bred fillies and two races worth $28,500 each, an open company allowance and an optional allowance for fillies and mares.

Daily average racing purses for the horses and horsemen in competition are projected at $210,000 this season, with the headline event being the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby Oct. 10.

Remington Park fans can win $500 by playing the races during the first three nights of the season. Drawings for the $500 will begin starting after the third race and will continue through the end of live racing. Fans should use their Lucky Circle Cards as they wager on Remington Park live racing to be eligible.

Live racing will begin at 6:30 p.m. for all three nights of opening weekend, Aug. 19-21.

Remington Park casino action continues each day, featuring 750 games. Doors open daily at 10 a.m. for casino gaming and simulcast racing.
