Hoosier Park Racing & Casino raised overnight purses about 9% for six middle-class conditions effective Aug. 11.
The Indiana track, which has slot machines, said the purse hike is the result of discussions with the Indiana Horse Racing Commission and Indiana Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association. The 63-day meet opened July 30 and runs through late October.
“This purse increase will further enhance Hoosier Park’s racing program by offering the highest purses in the region compared to tracks currently racing,” Hoosier Park general manager Jeff Smith said. “This is also an excellent way to reward the horsemen that compete at our facility.”
Hoosier Park officials said average daily purses will now be about $235,000. It’s projected more than $15 million will be distributed during the meet, which also includes some Quarter Horse racing.
