Jersey Sale to Benefit Racing Outfits

Sale will benefit Old Friends, Jockeys' Guild, and The Race for Education.

The Hall of Fame trio of trainer Bob Baffert and jockeys Mike Smith and Laffit Pincay Jr. will sign limited edition collectible jerseys at Del Mar on Labor Day, Sept. 6. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each jersey will benefit the Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement, the Jockeys' Guild, and The Race For Education, a national 501(c)(3) scholarship organization that enables young people of equine industry families as well as those who want to pursue an equine-related or agricultural career to obtain a college degree.

“We are calling this a three-in-one Hall of Fame jersey promotion benefiting Thoroughbred charities,” Jack Mutz, owner of MVP Champions, said in a statement. “When Bob Baffert signed our first collectible jersey April 3, 2010, Derby Day at Santa Anita, we knew the vision of supporting Thoroughbred charities with collectible jersey sales would work. Since then, we have had sell-out promotions at Hollywood Park and Del Mar, with Laffit Pincay Jr. and Mike Smith signing jerseys benefiting charities of their choice. We thank everyone for supporting our efforts.”

MVP Champions plans to release new Hall of Fame collectible jerseys at special promotions at Hollywood Park and Golden Gate in October.

The jerseys feature Russell Baze commemorating his 11,000th win; a Hall of Fame All-Star jersey featuring Pincay and other Hall of Fame jockeys Chris McCarron, Gary Stevens, and Eddie Delahoussaye; and a Triple Crown jersey featuring Secretariat.
