Jockey Ouzts Sets Record at River Downs

Ouzts has won 23 individual riding titles at his home base of River Downs.

Jockey Perry Ouzts, who has ridden at River Downs in Cincinnati, Ohio for 37 seasons, has set the record for wins during the Jockey Club Meet. He rode Regent's Daughter to an easy victory in the second race. Dean Sarvis had set the record in 2004 with 82 wins, breaking the 18-year-old record then held by Steve Neff.

Ouzts has won 23 individual riding titles at River Downs, the track he considers his home base. He has also won riding titles at Beulah Park and during the winter he plans on dividing his time between Beulah Park and Turfway Park. He currently ranks 18th in the history of riding wins with more than 5,450 victories and is closing in on Hall of Fame rider Jerry Bailey.

The summer meeting at River Downs is split into two meets. Ouzts won the earlier Turf Club meet this season with 73 victories. With his win Aug. 31, the 56-year-old Ouzts not only passed Sarvis for the Jockey Club meet, but also closed to within eight victories to become the all-time leading jockey during a summer meet at River Downs that is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year.

River Downs will return to live racing Friday, Sept. 3 for its final four days of live action. At the conclusion of live racing on Labor Day, River Downs will be open for simulcasting every day but Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 7.
