Clovelly Farms to Hold la Cour Memorial

La Cour was 1982 Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm Managers Club Manager of the Year.

A memorial service for Lars la Cour, the former manager of Clovelly Farms near Lexington who died on his 85th birthday June 23, will be held at the farm on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 4-6 p.m. EDT.

The memorial will be held in the garden at his former residence on Clovelly Farms, where la Cour resided until relocating to New York in 2009.

Born in Denmark, la Cour started with Clovelly in 1959 when businessman Robin Scully bought the farm acreage. As manager, la Cour became known for raising talented runners, including such stars as turf champion Assagai, Seven Springs, Silver Hawk, and Pay the Butler. He retired from Clovelly in 1997.

La Cour was honored as the 1982 Kentucky Thoroughbred Farm Managers’ Club Manager of the Year.
