Mine That Bird's Brother Sells for $250,000

A half brother to 2009 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Mine That Bird was bought for $250,000 by Jerry Crawford, manager of the partnership group Donegal Racing at the Sept. 16 session of the Keeneland September yearling sale. By Even the Score , the chestnut colt was consigned by Bona Terra Stud, agent for Halecky and Needham.

Mine That Bird, who was named Canada’s champion juvenile colt in 2008, has won or placed in a total of eight stakes throughout his career, including a second-place showing in the BlackBerry Preakness Stakes (gr. I). While the son of Birdstone has failed to find a win since his Run for the Roses feat, he has amassed career earnings of $2,228,637.

Mine That Bird’s half brother by Even the Score was bred in Kentucky by Phil Needham, Judy Needham, and Bena Halecky. The colt’s new owners, Donegal, additionally race 2010 grade I winner Paddy O’Prado.
