Zenyatta Works Six Furlongs

undefeated mare preps for Oct. 2 Lady's Secret Stakes with Hollywood work.

Continuing her preparation for the $250,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes (gr. I), Zenyatta worked six furlongs in 1:13 4/5 Sept. 18 at Hollywood Park.

Undefeated in 18 starts for owners Jerry and Ann Moss and trainer John Shirreffs, the 6-year-old Street Cry mare will be looking for her third victory in the Oct. 2 Lady’s Secret. The race, at 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track, is one of six grade Is that will be run during the first weekend of the Oak Tree at Hollywood Park meet.

In her drill, Zenyatta, who has been stabled at Hollywood throughout her career, worked with stablemate El Vino.

The winner of an unprecedented third consecutive Vanity Handicap (gr. I) in her most recent start at Hollywood June 13, Zenyatta, according to clocker Russ Hudak, was timed in :25 1/5 seconds for her opening quarter mile. She drilled three furlongs in :37 2/5, a half mile in :49 3/5, and completed her final two furlongs in :24 1/5 en route to the final clocking. Hudak said Zenyatta galloped out seven furlongs in 1:27 3/5.
